As AfterShock Comics' bankruptcy proceedings go underway, we are learning more about what has been happening behind the scenes at the publisher in the months leading up recent news. One of the biggest noticeable shifts is that the company's long-time managing editor Christina Harrington has left the company, with fellow long-time employee Teodoro Leo taking her place.

This news comes as AfterShock has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the California courts, but Harrington's exit actually came as the paperwork was being drawn up.

Christina Harrington at AfterShock Comics

Christina Harrington joined AfterShock in April 2018, leaving her role in Marvel editorial to work with the then-budding comic publisher. For Harrington, it was a new opportunity, a promotion, and a chance to work with an old boss - former X-Men line editor Mike Marts, who was an AfterShock co-founder and its editor-in-chief.

As managing editor of a small editorial team, Harrington handled much of the day-to-day of the publisher's editorial work while acting as lead editor on numerous titles, rotating with Marts and AfterShock's publisher/CCO Joe Pruett.

Harrington was also key as Marts left AfterShock Comics in September 2022, with Brian Cunningham taking his place as the company's editor-in-chief. Former IDW executive Chris Ryall was announced to be a publishing consultant in this new era, but Popverse learned that plans changed to the point that Ryall ultimately decided against joining Aftershock.

According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, Harrington turned in her notice in November with her final day being November 30. Several freelance comic book creators who were working on AfterShock books with Harrington relayed to Popverse that she was making attempts to get freelancers paid up until her last day on the job.

Who is on AfterShock Comics' editorial team now?

Following Harrington's departure from AfterShock in November 2022, editor Teodoro Leo was promoted to managing editor in December.

Like Harrington, Leo is a long-time part of AfterShock. He first began working for the company as an intern in 2016, before being hired on as an editoriala assistant later that year. In 2021, he was promoted to associate editor, and as of December 2022 he is now AfterSHock Comics' new managing editor.

Popverse has confirmed that the company's editorial team is Leo and Cunningham, with Pruett involved in his capacity as chief creative officer (and sometimes a writer of AfterShock comics).

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed Teodoro Leo's rise within the company.]
