All good things must come to an end and that includes our time with the Hashira in Demon Slayer season four. The season has ended and left us on the cusp of the final confrontation between Muzan Kibutsuji and the full might of the Demon Slayer Corps. While manga readers already know how that particular battle ends, anime fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out what happens next in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Unlike in previous seasons, this season ended without an announcement that Demon Slayer season five is in the works. That is because it isn’t. Rather than adapt the Infinity Castle arc of the manga into one or two seasons, Ufotable has opted to go even bigger and end the story with a trilogy of Demon Slayer films. That means that Demon Slayer season four episode eight was actually the final episode of the series but not the end of the story.
Unfortunately, we don’t currently know when those films will come out or even what they will be called, but the decision makes sense for the studio. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which came out in 2020, remains the highest-grossing film of all time at the Japanese box office, so Ufotable will be hoping to recapture that magic for the series’ final battle. Making the arc a film also allows for an increased budget that is spread out over a shorter runtime, allowing the animators to deliver something really special. Crunchyroll has secured the international distribution of the Demon Slayer film trilogy.
Demon Slayer season four ended on June 30, 2024 with a one-hour-long episode that is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
