The Gaulish invasion of American bookstores continues this September, with Papercutz releasing the 10th volume in its Asterix Omnibus series, Popverse can exclusively reveal.

The collection — which features newly translated versions of the stories 'Asterix and the Magic Carpet,' 'Asterix and the Secret Weapon,' and 'Asterix and Obelix All at Sea,' which were originally published in French between 1987 and 1996 — continues the omnibus program Papercutz launched for the Asterix line back in 2020, after winning the American rights to the character in 2019. All three stories are by the character’s co-creator Albert Uderzo, who continued to work on the character in the wake of his partner René Goscinny’s death in 1977.

Additionally, the 152-page edition will feature a new afterword by Alexander Simmons, putting the stories in a historical context not only of the time they were set — that’s around 50 BC, for those wondering — but also when they were originally created.

Papercutz’ Asterix Omnibus series is, for many American readers, their first introduction to a character and series that is iconic throughout Europe. Debuting in French magazine Pilote in 1959, Asterix — the bravest warrior in his town, which is one of the few still fighting the Roman occupation of Gaul in the year 50 BC — has become a beloved character due to both his irrepressible nature (bolstered by the magic potion that temporarily gives him super strength) and the wonderfully comedic nature of the series as a whole.

Goscinny and Uderzo co-created the character and worked on the strip together until Goscinny’s death, at which point Uderzo took over as sole creator — a role he held until his retirement, having created more than 30 volumes featuring the tiny hero. A new creative team, Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad, took over the character in 2013 and have published five volumes together since then.

Asterix Omnibus Vol. 10 will be release on September 19, in both hardcover and paperback editions.
