How our Wonder Woman Gal Gadot was almost in Margot Robbie's Barbie

The Wonder Woman actress would fit in perfectly as Barbie, Robbie says

While Greta Gerwig's upcoming summer blockbuster Barbie does star Margot Robbie as Barbie, she isn't the only Barbie in the movie. In fact, there are many Barbies with many different careers, played by actors Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Dua Lipa, Shanon Rooney, Kate McKinnon, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp and more, just as there is a cast of Kens (Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena). But, according to a Margot Robbie interview with Vogue, there was another actress in the running to play a Barbie, one who unfortunately wasn't able to join the cast because of availability issues - Gal Gadot.

As for why Robbie wanted to bring Gal Gadot on the team, Robbie told Vogue, that “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”

During the filming of Barbie, Gadot was busy filming Netflix's Heart of Stone, unfortunately.

Surely, it would be a great add to have the Wonder Woman actor as a part of the big (and very fun seeming) cast of Barbies, but alas, when schedules collide, what can you do?

Barbie will be hitting theaters on July 21, 2023. Buy your tickets to the pinkest cinematic event of the summer on Fandango or Atom Tickets.
