Absolute Scarecrow will have the highest kill count of all the Absolute Batman villains, promises Scott Snyder

Scott Snyder teases Absolute Scarecrow, saying it’s his favorite villain so far.

If you thought Absolute Joker was terrifying, you haven’t seen anything yet. Absolute Batman continues to reimagine the greatest heroes and villains of Gotham, and the results have been jaw-dropping. There’s Batman himself, who is more brutal than the original version. There’s Joker and Bane, who give off extreme body horror vibes.

However, Scott Snyder says we haven’t met his favorite Absolute villain yet.

“Absolute Batman #19 introduces Scarecrow, which is a whole new villain for us, and he’s kind of my favorite so far, honestly, because I’ve never gotten to write him,” Scott Snyder says during a panel at MegaCon 2026. “I’ve always wanted to write him. I wrote him like really minor in Last Knight on Earth, but I always was kind of like, how do you write this character that’s about fear.”

“Then it just hit for me where I was like, ‘Well, he’s just this guy that walks out of a cornfield barefoot in a suit and he just knows everything about you but is he really telling the truth or not.’ Because terror and dread these days feel like they come from not knowing what’s real and what’s not.”

“He’s shows up in this arc, and he terrorizes not just Gotham but Batman. He shows up and he’s like, ‘There’s so much about yourself you didn’t know. About the way you were made. About why you were made. Maybe everything in your life is a construction. Maybe everything is planned. Maybe you’re just exactly what we want you to be, and we wanted you to be that from the very beginning.’ And he just tears Bruce apart in a way that is so dark.”

“And he’s also really violent. He has the highest kill count of any villain. By page three he already murders five people or something. It’s really vicious.”

Absolute Batman #19 hits stores on April 15.
