One of the most exciting things about Absolute Batman is seeing the way it reimagines the heroes and villains of Gotham. The alternate universe title has introduced new versions of some of Batman’s most iconic characters, including a horrifying design for Joker. According to Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder, they’re just getting started.

“We definitely have plans for new characters and all that stuff too,” Scott Snyder told Popverse’s Chris Arrant at New York Comic Con 2025. “We’re bringing in some surprising characters that you will not expect to exist in this universe. Both [in Absolute Batman and] Absolute Catwoman, which we just announced. That’s going to be a book where some very exciting characters find their new iterations. But [Absolute Batman] too, we have a big plan.”

“We have big stuff coming with Dick Grayson, a lot of the Robin characters. I mean, Scarecrow is coming in, Ivy is coming back in a big way. We have the whole Barbara Gordon story that’s building, and Joker. I mean, Joker is coming to town, and that’s going to be wild.”

So we're getting more of the Bat Family in Absolute Batman, plus some iconic villains that have been sorely missed in the comic. We're fascinated by the idea of this Batman, who is more brutal and violent than any we've seen, playing the role of father figure and mentor to Robin or Nightwing, so that will definitely be something to watch out for.
