The subtle shift DC is making to its Batman family of comics, dubbed 'A New Day in Gotham'

Batman #1 launches an unofficial jumping-on point for DC's entire Batman line of DC titles running through September

The new Batman #1 is just the beginning of A New Day in Gotham, it turns out. All of DC’s ongoing Batman-centric comic book titles are looking to welcome new readers following the release of last week’s Batman #1 by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez, with the artist contributing to a cover refinement that will create a unified look to the entire Bat-line.

As revealed during DC’s presentation at Retailer Day at Rose City Comic Con 2025, all of the Batman and Batman-related titles in DC’s regular DCU line — that’s Detective Comics, Batman and Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing, Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Batgirl, in addition to the new Batman series — will feature new jumping-on points and new storylines with their September issues in an attempt to allow readers to jump from the new series to any Batman-related title that might grab their attention. The unofficial title for this shift being used by DC is ‘A New Day in Gotham,’ per DC Comics director of special sales Greg Gustin.

To mark the start of the New Day initiative, each of the new titles will feature a new portrait of its title character(s) by Jorge Jiménez in the top left hand corner of the cover, below the DC bullet and issue number. It’s an attempt to build a consistent brand identity for the Batman line that follows in the footsteps of Dan Mora creating similar portraits for the Superman titles earlier this summer as part of the Summer of Superman promotion. Take a look for yourself:
