DC's Absoute Green Arrow is about to test how far to push the slasher story mentality, and the former DC editor-turned-writer is worrying and wondering what will happen

Warning: spoilers for Absolute Green Arrow #1 are ahead/

Surprising no one, Absolute Green Arrow is a bullseye for DC Comics. Written by Pornsak Pichetshote and drawn by Rafael Albuquerque, the first printing of Absolute Green Arrow has sold over 300,000 copies, and DC has rushed the book back for a second printing already. The slasher story where a mysterious vigilante called Green Arrow hunts down billionaires is a win with critics and fans alike.

On Instagram, writer Pornsak Pichetshote reacted to the enthusiastic response to the book. At the end of the post, Pichetshote added, "Fun fact: The entire series has 3 distinct moments where I wonder / worry if we’ve pushed things too far & will lose the audience & the first of them happens next issue so feel free to join in the fun of tracking my rising & falling blood pressure."

Given that the first issue of Absolute Green Arrow ends with the discovery of a child covered in eyes, I can only imagine how things escalate from there. That said, it's worth noting that fellow Absolute Universe writer Scott Snyder has also stated that he worried that he and Absolute Batman artist Nick Dragotta pushed things too far when he punted a kid off of a boat in one issue.

Since that scene happened all the way back in Absolute Batman #6, and the book is still going strong fifteen issues later, that gutsiness has paid off for Snyder and Dragotta. Given the strength of Pichetshote's past writing, I don't have any doubts that the bold swings he's written in Absolute Green Arrow will land well with fans.

Absolute Green Arrow #1 is available now.
