DC's Next Level character relaunches are planned out for the next 18 months, confirms Scott Snyder

Absolute Batman author Snyder says there's "a lot of books" in DC's Next Level line that have yet to get an announcement. And a recent Deadshot reveal has us wondering if there isn't a larger plan afoot

It's a whole new era for some of DC's B-tier characters, as their ongoing Next Level initiative brings characters like Lobo, Batwoman, and Deathstroke into the spotlight alongside some of the finest comics creators working today. And according to one such creator, there's a whole lore more where they came from - Scott Snyder has confirmed that there's an ongoing Next Level plan for at least the next 18 months.

Snyder made this reveal in his Best Jacket Press substack, during which he was talking to fans about his day-to-day responsibilities at DC Comics.

"So right now part of my job at DC," the Absolute Batman writer explained, "Is, along with Joshua Williamson, to read and help advise or guide or seek out pitches for new books, especially for Next Level, which is still ongoing all the way through 2027. So there are a lot of books we haven’t announced yet, I’m very excited for you guys to see."

Well we're excited to see that too, Scott, especially after one particular DC Next Level announcement made May 13. As you might recall Popverse reporting on, the next character to get the Next Level treatment will be Deadshot, who joins the fray with an August one-shot by writer Gerry Duggan and artist Fernando Blanco. The story, aptly called One Shot, will not only focus on DC's deadliest marksman, but will also delve into a "web of super-powered lies that stretches throughout the entire DC Next Level cast of characters."

DC has signaled the following Next Level series, without saying when they will happen, what they will be about, or most importantly, who would be doing them:

  • The Demon
  • Legion of Super-Heroes
  • Jonah Hex
  • Doom Patrol

Now that feels like there's something bigger going on here. Just what is on the horizon for all the characters Next Level is relaunching? Is there a crossover of B-tier characters on the way, perhaps even heading toward a B-tier team-up book, such as The Outsiders? And how is Deadshot going to start unraveling it all? I guess we'll just have to keep our own supersenses peeled to find out.

DC’s Next Level: One Shot comes to comic book stores everywhere on August 19.
