Why does the One Piece creator keep defending sexual predators? [Popverse Jump]

As much as I admire Eiichiro Oda's work, I cannot understand his unwillingness to condemn the creators of Rurouni Kenshin and Toriko for their actions.

I’m going to preface this by saying that I adore One Piece, which shouldn’t be a surprise to people who have read some of the things I’ve written about the series. I believe that Luffy is the most inspiring comic book hero currently being written, and even though there are some intensely forgettable arcs in the series, the highs far outstrip the lows. While I admire Eiichiro Oda’s ability to play the long game when it comes to his characters, I find myself frustrated at his continued support of known paedophiles in the manga industry.
