Marvel Comics brings back Miles Morales's Spider-Verse arch-nemesis for Ultimate Universe sequel

Fans of Miles's storyline in Across the Spider-Verse should tune into the latest issue of Marvel's Miles Morales: Spider-Man to see a familiar face. Or lack thereof...

Major spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42 to follow.

Marvel's very successful Ultimate Universe line is wrapping up soon, but already its offshoots are starting to take root. Case in point, the latest (and final!) issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man, which is written by Cody Ziglar and drawn by Marco Renna with colors from Bryan Valenza. As you know if you've been following the character over the last couple of years, Miles Morales' future is deeply intertwined with the Ultimate Universe after his Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion mini, but in issue #42 of his own title, we find that that future has a lot to do with his past.

His past as star of the Spider-Verse films, that is.

A word before we continue - we're not joking around when we say we're going to be spoiling the events of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42. So if it's important that you find those out from the book itself and not this article, now's your last chance to turn back.

Still here? Great.

As you'll recall Popverse reporting on last October, Miles Morales has found himself in a bit of a multiversal to-do. not only is Miles one of the only characters carrying memories of the original Ultimate Universe over to main-continuity Marvel, but now he's also carrying some pretty important gear - the ultra-powerful Origin Boxes that he found during his time in the new Ultimate Universe. And as it turns out, objects with that kind of juice are extremely interesting to villains whose whole deal is spatial distortion, as you can see in the issue's epilogue...

That's right, webheads! It's The Spot! Given a memorable vocal performance in the Spider-Verse saga by Jason Schwartzman, The Spot is actually Dr. Johnathon Ohnn, who declares himself Miles's archnemesis in the film. And what begins as kind of a joke is changed to something deadly serious by the end of the movie, as it sure seems like The Spot will be the cause of the death of Miles's dad.

But let's not talk about that until 2027. For now, we have to wonder what kind of villainous shenanigans The Spot is up to in the pages of Marvel Comics, and how it will coincide with the end of the Ultimate Universe. Will the comic book Spot make the jump to omega-level threat in the same way his onscreen counterpart did? Only time will tell - although it's worth noting that Marvel has already revealed the Spot will be meeting Miles in a 'foreshadowing' cover for the issue by artist Stefano Caselli, who drew this page uncredited.

We say uncredited, but he and writer Chris Condon both receive credits for the issue online, even if not inside the issue itself. That would suggest Condon wrote the epilogue page, and might suggest that Condon and Caselli are responsible for the upcoming Reborn: Ultimate Impact project teased earlier this week. After all, the epilogue in Miles Morales: Spider-Man ends "To be continued... May 2026!" which is the same month that Marvel has teased Reborn beginning.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42 is available wherever you buy comics now.

Marvel's most reliable superhero has proven he can do a whole lot more than just 'whatever a spider can.' Swing into Spidey's history with Popverse's...

Just watch out for that radioactive blood.
