Matt Kindt’s Mind MGMT relaunch kicks off with eerie recruitment stunt

Today I spoke with Mind MGMT. No, really - a guerrilla marketing tactic from has fans calling a secret phone number to get in contact with Matt Kindt's iconic scifi organization, who's changing publishing houses after 14 years

The Popverse coverage of the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting 2026 is brought to you by Lunar Distribution. Commited to Retailers. Focused on the Future of Comics.

My editors here at Popverse HQ have asked me to do some strange things - befriending a giant Funko Pop, for example - so when I got assigned to call a mysterious phone number slipped under a hotel room door, I figured I was in for something fun. I was right, as expected, but what I couldn't have guessed is that I would be on the line with the titular shadowy org at the heart of Matt Kindt's iconic science fiction series, Mind MGMT.

Nor could I have expected that, shortly after that call, I'd be recruited.

Let's back up a bit here - in case you don't know, Mind MGMT is the tale of a secret government organization that recruits psychics, a kind of even-trippier X-Files laced with some of the supermental abilities you might see in Stranger Things. First published in 2012, Mind MGMT was written and illustrated by Matt Kindt and published by Dark Horse. Now, however, the story is switching homes to Oni Press, which leads us to this morning and, more importantly, this:

That's the photo my editor sent me from ComicsPRO 2026, with the note that this little missive was on his hotel doorstep when he awoke this morning. Naturally, I dialed the number, and in case you want to investigate for yourself, stop reading now.

Still here? Great. What I was met with was a raspy, machine-altered voice welcoming my to the call lines of Mind MGMT itself. After a brief introduction, the MGMT played a series of sounds for me, and I was asked to rate them on how paranoid they made me feel, using a 1-9 scale on my keypad (spoiler: they all made me pretty parrnoid - I think my lowest was, like, an 8?). After that, I was told I would be contacted shortly.

And boy, do those folks at MGMT work fast. I was swiftly sent a text message leading to the new, official website of Mind MGMT under Oni, along with a password that allowed me access. I'm not going to tell you what that is just here (I'm already on the outs with the IRS, I do not need a psychic org in the mix), but I will tell you what I found there:

Mind MGMT: New & Improved #1 by Matt Kindt goes on sale June of 2026, with a final order cutoff on April 1.

There was even an image of the first issue cover, which you can check out below, but I have to warn you - I don't know what kind of psychic influence this picture may have on you. Granted, there's the "desire to buy this comic" that the shadow puppeteers at Oni are probably aiming for with this whole thing, but if you also start getting visions of the future because of it, well...

I guess we're all in for a strange morning.

About ComicsPRO Industry Conference

Every year, the giants of the North American comic industry congregate behind closed doors for a closed-door conference to talk about the changing landscape of comics, what they've learned, and what they are all planning to do in the future. It's not a comic convention for fans, though - it's in a B2B event called the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting, and this year Popverse is going there to bring it all to you. At the 2026 Comics PRO Annual Meeting, Popverse will be covering the announcements, the conversations, and the insight from the likes of Marvel Comics, DC Comics, VIZ Media, Yen Press, Image Comics, Skybound Entertainment, and more.
