Not even ghosts live forever. Anime News Network broke the story on July 7 that Re-Kan! the popular supernatural manga series by artist Hinako Seta, would be publishing its last chapter this year. Specifically, the August issue of publisher Houbunsha's Manga Time magazine will feature Re-Kan!'s final chapter.
In case you aren't aware, Re-Kan! follows Hibiki Amami, a Japanese high-schooler with the ability to communicate with ghosts and other supernatural entities. Her powers make her a bit of an oddball in her school, but she's beloved by best pal Narumi. Much of the drama in the series revolves around Hibiki's antics as the only person around her who can sense the spirits communicating with our world, and the fact that Narumi is absolutely petrified by the supernatural.
Re-Kan! first appeared as a one-shot story in 2009 before becoming syndicated in February 2010. The series has been running ever since, gradually having been organized into 15 collected editions. In 2015, network Pierrot+ launched an anime based on Himiki's adventures that lasted for 13 episodes. Unfortunately, the anime is unavailable to stream anywhere as of this writing, but interested parties can find copies of the Re-Kan! DVD and Blu-ray floating around the internet.
The last chapter of the Re-Kan! manga will be published in Houbunsha's Manga Time magazine August 7.
