The Nightmare Before Christmas comics are a quiet hit outside of Marvel and DC

Disney doesn’t need Marvel to sell comics, and Dynamite's Nightmare Before Christmas proves it.

While the Walt Disney Company owns a major comic company in Marvel Comics, it's repeatedly shown it doesn't feel the need to keep all its eggs in one basket... or one publisher. Take, for instance, the quiet success that Dynamite Entertainment has had with its various Nightmare Before Christmas comics that it has been releasing since 2023. This past summer's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Long Live the Pumpkin Queen graphic novel adaptation by Liz Marsham, Ismael Canales, & Alessio Petilo,  sold out after just three months on shelves, thanks to not only interest in comic book stores but a sizeable demand from bookstores and even Walmart.

How successful has Nightmare Before Christmas: Long Live the Pumpkin Queen been? According to the publisher, between the hardcover and softcover editions, it sold over 65,000 copies between its release in July and even Halloween 2025, which doesn't include any Christmas 2025 sales. That resulted in a complete sellout of those print runs, with Dynamite sending it back for a quick reprint to meet demand. Those print runs would put those two books among the top 100 best-selling graphic novels & collections of 2025, including all but about 10 DC and Marvel books last year.

Dynamite followed it up with the current Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town limited series, going on now from Torunn Grønbekk and Edu Menna.
