NYCC 2021 | Beyond Latinx: Diversity and Intersectionality in Media representations

A group of self-proclaimed geek professionals including a television writer a college professor an IT administrator and an indie film director will all share their thoughts on their favorite fandoms comics and films paying specific attention to the presence and absence of Latinx characters in each of the works discussed. The panel made up of all Latinx heritage members will explore representation the lack of diversity in lead characters found in current comic related media and discuss wishes and goals for new stories and characters to be featured in future material. Frank and open dialogue about influences and the challenges of being unrepresented in pop culture as well as the difficulty of seeing mainly stereotypes and homogenized characters as the main source of Latinx representation will include Q&A with the audience as well as brainstorming about ways to improve the current culture. There will be laughs. Featuring: Cassandra Curbelo, Daniel Rodriguez, Jase Miles-Perez, Mario de la Cruz and Pedro Urena.
