Popverse's top stories of the day

After a week (and a day!) of suspense following the season finale of Disney+'s new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series - check out our ending explained guide here - we've finally got the news we've been waiting for: the show will return for a second season on Disney+.

The second season is expected to focus on Rick Riordan's second Percy Jackson book, The Sea of Monsters. About the series renewal, Riordan said in a statement, “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”

We certainly can't wait for the second season of Percy Jackson to hit Disney+ either. We at Popverse found the first season a great success, and it looks like Disney thinks so too, as the company cites the first season of the show as one of the top five season premieres of 2023, according to their internal data based on view in the show's first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu.

So far, it's a little early to start thinking about when the show will begin filming again - although apparently the writer's room has already been set up - or about second season release dates, but it's good to know that we'll be seeing Percy Jackson, as well as Annabeth and Grover, back on our television screens sometime in the future.

Disney+'s Percy Jackson show was a success because it remembered its audience - kids.
