Today, Disney+ announced that Marvel Studio's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will head to Disney+ exclusively on June 22.
The film originally debuted May 6, 2022 and has since garnered $374.7 million in domestic box office earnings and $877.6 million globally (as reported by Forbes), earning $200 million more worldwide than the first Doctor Strange film and a few million in change more than Matt Reeves' The Batman from earlier this year. Multiverse of Madness has become the year's biggest domestic box office hit and serves as a surprisingly good omen for the future of non-Spider-Man Marvel Studios films post Phase Three (which ended with Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home).
The official synopsis sent out with today's press release for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reads: "In Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary."
The cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
The film was directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Kevin Feige with executive producers Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll, Scott Derrickson, and Jaime Christopher. Michael Waldron served as screenwriter.
