Random House Graphic and Dr. Seuss Enterprises are partnering to produce the first-ever line of Dr. Seuss comics. The first three graphic novels from the line will feature familiar Dr. Seuss characters the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, and Sam-I-Am in brand-new adventures for a brand-new generation.

“The launch of Dr. Seuss graphic novels is an exciting step in carrying forward Ted’s legacy and his belief in celebrating the endless possibilities of a child’s imagination," Susan Brandt, president and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises say in a statement. "These new books—by celebrated talent, featuring favorite characters, and in a format so in demand—give kids another way to experience the magic of reading, and we know this would energize Ted if he were here with us today."

Whitney Leopard, Senior Editor at Random House Graphic adds, "Chapter book graphic novels are one of the fastest-growing categories in the industry, and we are absolutely over the moon to bring Dr. Seuss’s iconic characters to life in a new way that will not only excite kids, but also get more kids reading."

Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat's first comic is Cat Out of Water

The first Dr. Seuss graphic novel, Cat Out of Water will feature the Cat in the Hat and be written and drawn by cartoonist Art Baltazar (Tiny Titans). Cat Out of Water will hit shelves on April 30, 2024. The official synopsis of the book reads: "In CAT OUT OF WATER, it’s a normal day with normal chores for Sally and her brother . . . at least until the Cat in the Hat shows up. The Fish doesn’t want the siblings to let the Cat in, but after some promises to not cause a ruckus (like last time!), the Cat gets his way. Of course, with the help of Thing 1 and Thing 2, hijinks and mayhem ensue while the Fish, Sally, and her brother try to keep their house in order . . . and maybe have A LOT of fun along the way."

The Grinch and Sami-I-Am's first comics

The second Dr. Seuss graphic novel will debut in the Fall 2024 season and feature the Grinch in a story from cartoonist Kaeti Vandorn (Monster Friends) inspired by How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Vandorn's graphic novel will be followed in Spring 2025 by a Sam-I-Am adventure inspired by Green Eggs and Ham and told by cartoonist James Kochalka (Johnny Boo).

These graphic novels will all be heading to shelves soon, but if you can't wait that long to get your hands on some of this amazing art, we're excited to showcase an exclusive cover reveal of Art Baltazar's Cat Out of Water as well as some preview art in the gallery below:
