Trying to rally together institutional support identify appropriate content for students and share resources to meet regularly can be difficult. Hear firsthand experiences from educators and artists who have created a space both in-person and online for reading discussing and teaching these kinds of texts. By engaging in a conversation about the successes challenges and best practices for forming these kinds of meeting groups and spaces to explore graphic medicine texts collaboratively other educators can learn strategies to create similar programming in their schools and libraries.

Diversity statements have been declared by big publishing houses yet we have to see more Black Indigenous and Persons of Color as leading superheroes of comics read by our diverse communities. This panel features creators and librarians from the five National Associations of Librarians of Color in the USA sharing actionable points to tackle this situation such as: How can we show societal gains from reading materials reflecting diverse superheroes? How can we show the demand for these publications and advocate for them?

This panel explores the intricacies of transforming books into audiobooks through the art of narration. STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math) education has become the norm for curriculum across the country. Often, it starts too late. Out-of-school learning is imperative for children. It is important for them to start STEAM education at a young age in order to establish their own learning path. Who better to get them safely on that path than a bunch of superheroes? The merger of STEAM-based learning comics and cosplay is a natural fit. It opens the world of STEAM to the very young in a way that is hands-on accessible and engaging.
