Netflix taps Walking Dead and Westworld creatives for live-action Assassin's Creed series
The epic saga between Templars and Assassins is coming to Netflix courtesy of Roberto Patino and David Wiener (and Ubisoft, of course)

Five years after a landmark agreement between video game producer Ubisoft and streaming platform Netflix, a newly announced collaboration has all the gaming world a'buzzing. On July 17, Ubisoft announced via their own website that Netflix has greenlit a live-action Assassin's Creed series. And what's even more exciting? They've even revealed some of the team that will be working on it.
Bringing the epic saga of intrigue and stealth to a screen near you will be executive producers Roberto Patino and David Wiener, whose contributions to franchise/genre storytelling you have almost certainly encountered before. Patino served as an executive producer on the massively popular HBO series Westworld, while Wiener co-produced 21 episodes of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC. Also among Patino's and Wiener's accolades are credits in Sons of Anarchy and Halo, respectively.
"We are so excited to work alongside Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners," says Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television, "to bring this beloved franchise to series [...] We look forward to delivering an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about Assassin's Creed, while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide."
With that little bit of information already revealed, the next big question Assassin's Creed fans are likely to ask is in which time period the Netflix series will be set. Will it be a modern-day escapade mixed with historical fiction, as in the original entries to the game series? Will it be a time period that we've visited before, perhaps even populated by characters we know?
Unfortunately, those answers just aren't available right now, and no amount of sneaking, assassin-style, into Ubisoft HQ is going to provide them (trust us, we've tried). But hey, we know at least one of these folks mentioned above knows his way around the Wild West - what are the chances he'll revisit that soundstage again?
