Critical Role animated series The Mighty Nein adds Lucy Liu as the Bright Queen, more cast revealed at NYCC '25

Liu joins Anjelica Huston, Nathan Fillion, T'Nia Miller, Felicia Day, Graham McTavish, and Ivanna Sakhno in Prime Video's latest Critical Role adaptation, The Mighty Nein

With just a little over a month left until the series debuts on Amazon's Prime Video, there's still a whole lot we don't know about Critical Role's campaign 2 adaptation, The Mighty Nein. But I mean - what do you expect from those famously tight-lipped Critical Rolers? The cast is usually so very averse to revealing things ahead of their actual debut on screen (or at the table, either way). So just imagine my surprise when they revealed brand new voice cast members at New York Comic Con 2025.

It's a list of names you'll absolutely recognize (hell, one of them is an actual Oscar-winner), but the cast member that was probably the highlight of the Critical Role panel at the Javits Center this year was probably Lucy Liu - chiefly because, in a rare moment of transparency, the assembled crew of Sam Riegel, Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe , Matthew Mercer, Ashley Johnson, and Travis Willingham actually revealed who Liu will be playing: that is, Empress Leylas Kryn, AKA The Bright Queen.

But before we go into her character, let's take a look at the rest of the revealed cast, shall we? IN no particular order, here is the full list of Mighty Nein cast members unveiled at this year's NYCC.

  • Anjelica Huston
  • Lucy Liu
  • Nathan Fillion
  • T'Nia Miller
  • Felicia Day
  • Graham McTavish
  • Ivanna Sakhno

Wild, right? I mean, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day back together? It's starting to feel very "The Hammer Is My Penis" in here. But since we promised to talk about the one actual character who was named in this list, let me give you a quick TL;DR on The Bright Queen.

The most recent person to wield imperial power in the Kryn Dynasty, Leylas is a powerful Drow warrior who is said to be over a millenia old. Bound to the deity called The Luxon. Without explaining too much here (I guess I'm not much for spoilers either, Critters), Leylas plays an important role in the cloak-and-dagger quests of The Mighty Nein, and even made it into the liveplay series's third campaign, Bells Hells.

Not that it's been exactly greenlit yet, but if Prime Video does eventually get around to adapting that third campaign, perhaps we'll see Liu reprise the role. Either way, Lucy, get ready - as if you werent' already pretty beloved, you've now got the biggest D&D liveplay fandom in the world in your corner.

The Mighty Nein season 1 will debut on Prime Video on November 19.
