As the residents of Halloweentown once said, life’s no fun without a good scare, which is why horror is always such a consistently fun video game genre. After the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake in 2022, the dev team behind it is making a new horror game that is giving Dead Space vibes and we mean that in the best way.

In a new developer blog, co-directors Wojciech Piejko and Jacek Zieba give a deep insight into what inspired their new game, Cronos: The New Dawn. The footage shown in the video certainly looks like it has taken some cues from Dead Space, including mutated enemies, severed limbs, and the over-the-shoulder camera, but it is the iconic works that have inspired the new game from the Silent Hill 2 developers that has us really intrigued.

According to the co-directors, Cronos: The New Dawn draws on John Carpenter’s The Thing and Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys for its story, which is a blend of stories that we’re very excited to see in action. The time travel mechanics of Cronos feels very 12 Monkeys, which should make a really interesting combination with the uncertainty and trust issues that The Thing gave us. There is a fun (and creepy!) story to be told in the middle of that particular Venn diagram and we’re here for it.

There is no specific release date for Cronos: The New Dawn, which is expected to launch on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox consoles sometime in 2025.
