Daggerheart, the D&D rival from the Critical Role team, hits half a million characters online: "It hasn't really slowed"

Stats come from Demiplane, an online resource for fans of TTRPGs like Daggerheart

As you'll recall Popverse reporting on before, the minds that brought you Critical Role have crafted their own sprawling fantasy TTRPG with Daggerheart. The game launched in May of 2025, but except for the fact that it consistently flew off shelves wherever it was sold, it was difficult to know just how many people have been partaking... until now. According to one of the internet's most popular resources for TTRPG play, there are half a million players taking their Daggerheart ideas online.

The news comes from an interview that TTRPG maven Todd Kenreck set up with Demiplane's Peter Romenesko. Demiplane, in case you don't know, is an online resource providing things like character sheets and class stats for players interested in a variety of the world's most popular TTRPGs. Like, for instance, Daggerheart.

"We finally hit our milestone that we were shooting for," began Peter Romenesko "we crossed 500,000 Daggerheart characters Daggerheart Nexus. So we're at half a million [players]."

It's a number that Romenesko and the Demiplane team had been hoping for ever since Darrington Press, the studio that published Daggerheart, approached him earlier in 2025. "They approached us weeks before the play test went live for Daggerheart," Romenesko explained, "Just really just a few weeks before they launched in - I think it was March and said, 'Hey, we have this idea. Are you interested?' And we said 'Yeah, let's give it a shot.' So from day one of the play test all the way through, it's been crazy."

Romenesko went on to say that Daggerheart is "by far the top game right now" on Demiplane. "What we see is across the board for the users is that it hasn't really slowed."

And with that demand, says the Demiplane founder, comes ways that fans want to see the Demiplane interface change. "The first question that we saw," Romenesko says of fan reactions, "Was, 'This is fantastic. When's it going to be in the character creator?' And it's like, okay, I guess we're we're moving there.'"

In case you don't know, the "character creator" Romenesko is talking about is a facet of Demiplane's Nexus app. And indeed, the TTRPG tool has been updated to better assist in creating characters for the world of Daggerheart.

Here's to the next half-a-million.
