Critical Role's Laura Bailey recorded "almost the whole game" of Dispatch as Blonde Blazer before becoming Invisigal

Dispatch spent seven episodes trying to find its Invisigal before realizing it already had her.

If you've played 2025's Dispatch, maybe the most popular recent superhero video game outside of Insomniac's Spider-Man, you probably got very used to hearing the voice of Laura Bailey, AKA Invisigal. But here's the thing - if things had gone just a little bit differently, you would've heard Invisigal's voice in a different, surprising place. That is, out of the mouth of Blonde Blazer. And at a recent live appearance, Bailey revealed just how close this alt-take on the game came to happening.

Bailey recently was at Anime Frontier 2025 with her Critical Role costars Ashley Johnson, Travis Willingham, Liam O'Brien, Sam Riegel, and Taliesin Jaffe. The panel featured a lot of Q7A back-and-forth between the cast and fans, and even though most of the discussion revolved around their megahit D&D actual play series, at least one fan wanted to know about their superhero satire. Specifically, that fan asked, how much of Bailey's sense of humor was already written into Invisigal, since the two have a "similar personality."

"That's probably why they switched me," Bailey joked, "Let's be honest."

I probably don't have to tell you that that resulted in a laugh - the people love their Laura Bailey.

"Yeah," continued The Mighty Nein actor, "I recorded almost the whole game, like seven episodes, as Blonde Blazer. They were having a hard time finding Invisigal; nobody was hitting it right, I guess. Then they were like, 'Would you switch? Because I think you'd work.' And I was like, 'Yeah, let's do it.'"

I know, reader - I was thinking the same thing as you: is there enough recorded material to basically redo Dispatch with Laura Bailey as Blonde Blazer? Eh, not exactly, said the actor.

"As we recorded," she said, "And anybody else that recorded on the game can say the same - they changed a lot of the dialogue as we were recording. Like Pierre [Shorette, writer] liked to rewrite lines on the fly and so yeah, that happened too."

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
