There's at least three more Final Fantasy XIV expansions coming from Square Enix

Final Fantasy XIV has proven to be one of the most persistent MMOs in history and Square Enix simply won't let it come to an end just yet.

There aren’t many comeback stories in gaming that are more dramatic than Final Fantasy XIV. An MMO that was panned at launch and looked like it was going to be an unmitigated disaster for Square Enix. However, it made a miraculous recovery with the A Realm Reborn expansion that essentially remade the whole game from scratch. Since then, it has been one of the most popular MMOs in the world and Square Enix has no plans to let it end anytime soon.

Just last year, Square Enix rolled out Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, the fifth full expansion for the game. However, Naoki Yoshida, one of the producers of Final Fantasy XVI, explained that they still have plenty of plans for the future of Final Fantasy XIV. “To share about our creative process, the team and I usually plan very far in advance,” he explained. “Right now, we’re in expansion 7.0 Dawntrail, but we already have a general idea of plans up to 10.0. We're working towards a framework that we have built for ourselves. That being said, we also have our story from the original 1.0 Final Fantasy XIV through our previous Endwalker expansion, 6.0, and that's not going away. That's still going to be there.”

That means that there are at least three major updates planned for Final Fantasy XIV. More than a decade after the servers first went live, they’re still going strong. “From a general perspective,” Yoshida confirmed. “We will take Dawntrail as our next roller coaster. There's going to be a lot of ups and downs and exciting stories that you can expect out of this and future releases as well.”

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
