The new trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI has dropped and Rockstar Games seems more focused on love and romance than ever before in GTA

GTA VI has been pushed back to 2026 but at least we're getting a first look at the game to tide us over.

Less than a week after confirming that Grand Theft Auto VI won’t be released until 2026, Rockstar Games have put a salve on our collective wounds by giving us a new trailer for GTA VI. While it has all the style and action you’d expect from a Grand Theft Auto game, what really caught our eye wasn’t the satire or the epic crime sprees shown. Instead, we’ve already fallen in love with the surprisingly touching romance between the two main characters.

This isn’t the first time that Rockstar Games has given us romance in a GTA title, but it is the first time that it felt like such a real focus. While we shouldn’t try to glean any major plot points from this early trailer, we can probably guess that the general vibe of the trailer is what we can expect the final game to be. Sure, there are guns and explosions and bodies glistening in the sun, but the focus is very clearly on the criminal duo of Lucia and Jason’s love story.

There are fun nights out in the club, a reunion after Lucia is released from prison, and plenty of open, healthy affection between the two. One scene from the trailer that really stuck out for us was seeing the pair sitting on a dock outside Vice City, sharing a quiet moment together. Based on this trailer, Grand Theft Auto VI feels like GTA with more heart and we’re here for it.

Grand Theft Auto VI is out on May 26, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
