Popverse's top stories of the day

It is only a matter of time before every gaming icon gets a fresh coat of paint. In the case of Pac-Man, that reboot is the dark and gritty Shadow Labyrinth that we were first introduced to during Amazon Prime Video’s Secret Level in 2024. Shadow Labyrinth’s release date is approaching faster than a pack of murderous ghosts, bringing a weird new look to one of gaming’s most iconic figures.

The star of Shadow Labyrinth is the mysterious Swordsman No. 8, who finds themselves alone on a strange alien planet, which mirrors the world we were introduced to during Secret Level. With the help of Puck (Note that Pac-Man’s original name was Puck-Man in Japan), Swordsman No. 8 must fight their way out of the dark world and defeat the monsters in their way when The Shadow Labyrinth release date is June 18, 2025.

Shadow Labyrinth is a 2D side-scroller in the vein of Castlevania or Metroid, where players gain new abilities as they explore the world, which in turn allows them to unlock new parts of the map. With its dark tone and monstrous version of Pac-Man, Circle became one of the most talked about episodes of Secret Level. We were all a bit surprised when it ended up being a shadow pilot for a brand-new Pac-Man game, though.

Shadow Labyrinth will be released on June 18, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC, marking one of the most high-profile releases in the Pac-Man series in generations.
