The Sydney Sweeney Split Fiction movie is just one of several Hazelight games being developed into film & TV

According to Split Fiction producers Story Kitchen, the team behind Sonic the Hedgehog, development has already begun on an It Takes Two movie, and the door is open for more adaptations

Just a few weeks ago, gamers everywhere thrilled to learn that Split Fiction, one of the most popular games this year, was already on track to receive the film treatment, and with no less a star than Sydney Sweeney leading the charge. But Split Fiction's developer, Hazelight Studios, isn't stopping there. According to some veteran insiders of the video-game-to-movie pipeline, Hazelight has more film adaptations on the horizon, with a project based on their 2021 game It Takes Two already in development stages.

Those insiders we're talking about are Dmitri M Johnson and Mike Goldberg, co-founders of the media company Story Kitchen, who has helped produce the Tomb Raider series for Amazon, all three of the megahit Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and of course, Split Fiction. Appearing on an episode of The Game Business Show, the pair confirmed that they were working on an It Takes Two movie, and more Hazelight projects besides.

"With Hazelight," says Johnson, "We’re fortunate to be working with them on several of their games right now."

Speaking on what makes their collaboration a fortunate one, Johnson says, "It's trust, it's friendship. It's that belief that, at the very least, because it's fucking hard to get film and TV made, but at the very least they [Hazelight] know we're going to do everything we can to try."

All that said, the producers are familiar enough with Hollywood to know that, even though a movie can be in development, there's still a ways to go before it actually gets to the big screen. "There's no guarantee it's going to happen," Johnson concludes, "But we will definitely lose sleep to try to make that happen, and do it with the highest integrity."

As of this writing, there is no release date for the Split Fiction film.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
