After years of speculation, Nintendo has finally revealed everything we need to know about their next console. The Switch 2 is bigger, more powerful, and has more unique features than the original Nintendo Switch. More importantly, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released worldwide in just a few weeks, to the joy of many excited gamers.

In early April, Nintendo hosted a special Nintendo Direct with details about their new console. From games to some of the new features to that all-important release date. Near the end of the presentation, Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 release date is June 5, 2025 and was available for pre-order in April 2025.

Following the announcement, Nintendo also revealed how much fans could expect to pay for the Switch 2 and the sticker shock sent many gamers into a tailspin. While it isn’t completely out of the realm of reasonable for a brand new console – especially when you compare it to past Nintendo hardware – it is still looking to be one of the most expensive Nintendo consoles of all time before you adjust for inflation.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will have at least one major game released on it at launch, as Mario Kart World is hitting shelves the same day and will be followed a few weeks later by Donkey Kong Bananza in July. Ideally, the six-month lead up to the holiday season will give Nintendo enough time to flesh out the Switch 2’s library and make it a more appealing purchase at the end of the year.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5, 2025.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
