The Witcher 3 refuses to die as CD Projekt announces a surprise new expansion, 12 years after the last one
The Witcher is giving back the original Geralt of Rivia. No, we're not talking about Henry Cavill - we're talking about the Wild Hunt

It feels like some Witcher fan out there made one of those fairy tale wishes. You know, the ones that are true to the words that are spoken, but not exactly the intention of the wishmaker? Anyway, the words in question were probably something like "I wish the original Witcher would come back," made by some forlorn fan fan of Netflix's Witcher TV show. But unlike the wishes in those fairy tales I'm talking about, this one might have actually come out better than the wisher intended. Why?
Because The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting an expansion pack.
Yes, we're serious - the 2015 video game adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher novels (and for so many, the introduction to the world therein) is coming out with new playable content a staggering 12 years after the original game dropped. The news came out via The Witcher game series's official social media accounts on May 27.
"Medallion's humming," said the post, "That can only mean one thing! It's time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past! [...] This brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more. It’s being co-developed with Fools Theory and is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2027. Stay tuned for more information in late summer."
Just because we started with the Geralt of it all, we want to clarify here: it has not been officially confirmed whether Songs of the Past will see OG Witcher voice actor Doug Cockle reprise his role as the White Wolf, a fan-dream he's technically already made true by voicing Geralt in the Witcher collection from horror game Dead by Daylight.
Still, we're going to be keeping our ears peeled for just that kind of news. And in the meantime, if you were the Witcher fan that made that wish, could you point us toward your old lamp or abandoned well? We've got some requests regarding the Elder Scrolls franchise we'd like to make.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past drops some time in 2027.
