Warner Bros. is hoping that Superman flies high at the cinemas in just a few weeks, but they’re also banking on DC characters to carry them in their gaming sphere. We’ve talked about how the company needs to be less controlling of its gaming branch, but Warner Bros. Discovery has other ideas. After the massive flop that was MultiVersus, they’re restructuring and shifting focus to their biggest gaming properties – Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC.
We’ve known that Warner Bros. was circling the wagons around their most reliable properties for a while, but the most recent report is further evidence that they’re looking for a safe bet from their gaming branch. The reported restructuring involves shuffling some gaming executives directly under the supervision of the board but doesn’t include any layoffs (yet).
The four franchises mentioned in the report are Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC, which look to become the main pillars of the Warner Bros. gaming division. However, that doesn’t mean we’ll be getting that elusive Superman video game coming up – most likely, Warner Bros. is going to focus on yet another Batman game franchise, especially since they canceled their in-development Wonder Woman game earlier this year.
We’re still waiting for sales figures from Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, which came out in May 2025, and Hogwarts Legacy 2 doesn’t have a release date and isn’t expected until 2026 at the earliest, so we’ll have to wait a while to see what this restructure does for Warner Bros. Gaming in the medium and long term. For now, they’re trying to sweep a $100 million loss from the underperforming MultiVersus when they restructure again next year.
You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
