World of Warcraft's developers reveal the one secret that almost evaded gamers in the game's history

Finding easter eggs isn't exactly the point of World of Warcraft, but it sure is a definitive activity for so many of its fans. There are full Discord groups dedicated entirely to locating little secrets that devs have worked into the game - from unique new pets to interesting items to imagery found nowhere else in the game. And at PAX East 2025, some of the people behind those secrets talked about which was the absolute hardest to find.
Let's back up a bit - perhaps World of Warcraft's biggest event at the Boston gaming convention was the Evolving Azeroth panel that took place on Friday, May 9. Attending the panel were WoW's Associate Game Directors Jeremy Feasel and Paul Kubit, Associate Design Director Maria Hamilton, and Principal Game Designer Jesse Kurlancheek, and naturally, there was a lot of talk about work on the games that fans will never really see. However, at about the half-hour mark of the discussion, the crew did get to talking about work that only a handful of dedicated fans will see - the game's secrets.
"When you have a community that large," said Feasel, "Looking for secrets, it's not difficult [to find them]."
However, there was one major exception.
"I think if there was one that was a little bit too hard," Feasel said, "It was probably the Jenafur Secret. The mental leap you had to take between what was shown in game and the puzzle in the head of the designer was enough to keep [World of Warcraft players] busy for 11 months."
In case you don't know, the Jenafur is a creature that looks like a housecat but is endowed with powers relating to Azeroth's Elder Gods and The Void (no, not the Thunderbolts* guy). Introduced as part of WoW's Ashenvale territory, Jenafur can be found by the player and used as a Battle Pet. Jenafur was introduced as part of the 1.13.0 patch to WoW classic in 2018, so, by now, there are plenty of online tutorials for how the creature's secrets can be uncovered. But c'mon, don't you want to discover that for yourself?
You've got 11 months to do so if you want to break the record.
