Former X-Men head writer Jonathan Hickman is returning to Marvel Comics in a big way in 2023 for a new project he's calling "Sandman for the Marvel universe."

Teased during the Marvel Comics' Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego, the 2023 project reunites Hickman with artist Valerio Schiti after working together on his X-Men finale, Inferno.

This as-yet-untitled Marvel project has a teaser with the quote "What happens when the powers that be meet the natural order of things?", over top a sea of stars.

Hickman says he's been working on this as-yet-untitled Marvel project for three years, which would line up with the 2019 beginning of his X-Men run with House of X/Powers of X. Given the tease, it's possible that this as-yet-unnamed project could be reunitig Hickman with his cosmic roots from Infinity and Avengers, or possibly the outer space side of his X-Men run.

Or both.

But where does the "Sandman for the Marvel universe?" fit in. We'll be asking that question, and will report back with answers when we have it.
