Marvel Studios & Disney fires Jonathan Majors following guilty verdict
Major's MCU character Kang was meant to play a big role in Marvel's upcoming arc
Marvel Studios has parted ways with the actor they have been setting up to be the new MCU big bad. After Kang actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty earlier today 3rd degree assault and 2nd degree harassment, The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that Marvel has fired the actor, who had a slate of already announced upcoming projects with the studio.
Majors has recently starred as multiple variants of Kang in Marvel projects Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and he was poised to play a major role in the upcoming 2026's Avengers: Kang Dynasty and 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars. Kang Dynasty had been expected to begin filming in early 2024, but those plans are likely to be in flux now, as Marvel pivots to deal with this new development.
Though Marvel has recast actors in the past, there hasn't really been an example of a recasting that was so prominent with a character so clearly set up to be a key in their overarching universe.
