The universe of Star Wars gets bigger every single year, with the recent crop of shows on Disney+ like Ahsoka and The Mandalorian reimagining what we know about the core Skywalker Saga. While The Mandalorian isn't explicitly about the Jedi and Sith's conflict that we're so familiar with, it does take place in the New Republic era in the aftermath of the events of Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi.
With that in mind, at Los Angeles Comic Con 2024, Mandalorian cast members Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Carson Teva), were asked which character in the original Star Wars trilogy they would most love to share a scene with. Esposito honored one of Star Wars' greatest actors: "For me it would be the great one, the great James Earl Jones as Darth Vader. In my dreams, we can go back and he's tutoring me on how to take over his legacy," Esposito began. "I love James so much; he was a dear friend and he was such a great performer. We all pay so much tribute to him for all the characters in his life, but Darth Vader certainly was a powerful one for me."
Ming-Na Wen echoed a similar sentiment: "Moff Gideon would have been an excellent student of Darth Vader. I already had the pleasure of not knowing that I was in a scene with the OG Luke Skywalker, so going to that level of my childhood - being in Jabba the Hutt's throne room, working with Boba Fett - I feel like I was part of the original OG films already."
"My way into Star Wars were Ewoks," Emily Swallow began. "I was very young when the second movie came out and they were cute and cuddly and furry so I was like, ‘I'm all in.’ [...] The Armorer is making a lot of armor all by herself, so maybe she could get some Ewoks to come in and apprentice with her, help out a little. I feel like that would be good."
Paul Sun-Hyung Lee said, "You going to start an Ewok sweatshop?" eliciting laughs from the audience. Swallow was quick to remind the audience that, "There are no child labor laws on Mandalore."
And lastly, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee's response is for all of us rebel pilot fanatics. "Wedge Antilles. It would be fun for Carson Teva and Wedge Antilles to be kicking back, just a couple of pilots, after going on patrol for a bit. I'd like to think, in my own head canon, that maybe their paths have crossed a couple times. That they've hung out, maybe shared a couple of drinks, played a game or two of Sabacc. I think that'd be a lot of fun. [Antilles actor] Dennis Lawson was one of the unsung heroes of the original trilogy, [...] it'd be so fun to see those two kicking around."
I think I'm going to spend the rest of my day imagining the stories that Wedge Antilles and Carson Teva would trade over a cup of caf.
