Marvel promises more Carnage, more Misery, and... the Death of the Venomverse?

It's a summer of symbiotes over at Marvel this August

Venom fans can look forward to an entire season of drooling, terrifying toothy horror later this year, with the Spider-Man and the Venomverse panel at C2E2 revealing more information about everyone’s new favorite time of year: the Summer of Symbiotes!

Summer of Symbiotes is the umbrella title given to a number of projects celebrating the 35th anniversary of the first appearance of Venom, kicking off with May’s Cult of Carnage: Misery, Extreme Venomverse, and Carnage Reigns. Panelists including Venom editor Devin Lewis, Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski, and creators Zen Wells (Amazing Spider-Man), Sabir Pirzada (Cult of Carnage: Misery), and David Pepose (Extreme Venomverse) revealed plans for a number of titles spinning out of the Venom mythology.

Under discussion were new titles such as Web of Carnage — a new series by Ram V, Francesco Manna and others spinning out of the finale of the Carnage Reigns storyline, with the Carnage symbiote adrift in space and with a new mission: claiming the throne of the King in Black — and Cult of Carnage: Misery, by Sabir Pirzada and Francesco Mortarino, in which Liz Allen has bonded to a symbiote of her own, even as she’s haunted by a new creature called Madness, as well as the Edge of Venomverse Unlimited Infinity Comic, launching in June from writers Clay McLeod Chapman and J. Holtham, with a lineup of artists including Phillip Sevy, Gustavo Duarte, and more.

All of this is leading up to the big event of the year: Death of the Venomverse, from Cullen Bunn and Geraldo Sandoval, running weekly through August, in which Carnage has an all-new mission: kill each and every Venom possible.

“It's been far too long since I've written any stories about Venom and company,” Bunn said in a statement about the new series, which will also feature a back-up strip from Venom co-creator David Michelinie. “This story — this completely bonkers epic —feels like the right time to throw my symbiotic hat back in the ring. Returning to a multiverse full of Venom symbiotes, maybe (but hopefully not) for the last time, I knew I had to do something big. Thus, the title — Death of the Venomverse — was born. Perhaps that title is a bit of a threat for our favorite symbiotes, but I promise you it is not empty! Get ready for plenty of surprises, some heartbreak, and more symbiotes than you can shake a stick at!”

Cult of Carnage: Misery launches in May, with Web of Carnage following in July, and Death of the Venomverse #1 hitting stands August 2.

If this seems like a lot of symbiotes for one season, just remember the old saying: “Sun’s out, overgrown tongue’s out.” (Okay, I’m sorry for that almost pun. Check out the gallery of preview images from the panel as an apology.)
