Sci-fi war gets a new face — and an entirely new outlook — in an upcoming new series coming from creators Matt Kindt and Dan McDaid early in 2024, Popverse can exclusively reveal. A reporter ends up stranded in a war-torn alternate dimension in the new Dark Horse Comics series If You Find This, I’m Already Dead.

The official description of the series from Dark Horse goes like this:

“Robin is a big city reporter, embedded with U.S. Marines heading to the hostile pocket universe called Terminus. Ten minutes in, the entire marine squad is wiped out and she has to survive (and report) on her own. Terminus is full of cosmic wonders–and sci-fi ‘gods’ that are in the middle of a political power struggle. The language is alien, and the politics are deadly. Can she survive long enough to figure out what’s going on and get home to tell the story?”

Talking about the series, Kindt joked, "If Moebius, Richard Corben, and Jack Kirby had a baby... Well... they actually did. And it's us.”

Unusually, the series will be released in the “magazine-sized” format, with issues measuring 8” by 10.875”; in addition to the story by Kindt and McDaid (with letters by Jim Campbell, and colors from Bill Crabtree), each issue will include exclusive behind-the-scenes back matter. The first issue will feature a variant cover from Brian Hurtt, with future issues to feature covers from Alice Darrow and Sumeyye Kesgin. “We wanted to capture the great tradition of such great sci-fi magazines as Heavy Metal, Epic Magazine, and 1984 with a big scuzzy cosmic sci-fi story and format,” Kindt explains.

If You Find This, I’m Already Dead #1 (of 3) will be released February 14, 2024, and is currently available to pre-order at comic book stores. Click through the gallery below to see the covers for the first issue, by McDaid and Hurtt.
