Andy Park, who’s worked as a concept artist — and eventually, visual development lead — on Marvel Studios projects since 2010, has been let go by the company as part of its recent company-wide layoffs, he’s revealed on social media.
“Marvel Studios Visual Development: 2010–2026,” Park posted. “End of an era. I was there at the start of a team that broke the mold. 16 years, 40+ films, and 15 films led as Director of Visual Development, I couldn’t be prouder of the history we made. My journey continues…”
Park’s first Marvel Studios projects were 2011’s Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, both of which he worked on as concept artist; he’d go on to work on practically every Marvel Studios feature release from that point onwards, up to and including this December’s Avengers: Doomsday, including working as the visual development supervisor on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Thunderbolts*. Additionally, he worked on WandaVision, Daredevil, and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
Prior to his time at Marvel, Park worked as a concept artist for the God of War video game series, and was also a comic book artist on titles including Tomb Raider, DC’s The Authority, and Marvel’s Weapon X and Excalibur.
Park’s layoff was part of a wider dismissal of between 7-8% of Marvel’s total workforce last week, which sources inside the company had earlier confirmed to Popverse.
