Marvel unveils Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom voice—but still won't show his face
Iconic villains should be heard and not seen, if the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer is anything to go by.

The first full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is finally out for the public to watch. After debuting behind closed doors at CinemaCon earlier this year, Marvel Studios has finally dropped the trailer online for all of us to see. While they’re still hiding the reveal of Robert Downey Jr.’s face behind the Doctor Doom mask, we get to hear him voice the character for the first time.
“Something’s coming,” a voice says at the start of the new trailer for the upcoming MCU crossover film. “Something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”
That voice, which features a slight but noticeable accent that could be from some vaguely Eastern European country, is revealed to come from Doctor Doom himself. It is the closest we’ve had to a reveal of Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as the iconic Fantastic Four villain. We get a silhouette of the character at the start of the trailer and a full visual of him later on, but both times, Doctor Doom is wearing his metallic mask.

The rest of the trailer has scenes with characters from the three distinct universes at play in Avengers: Doomsday, including two shots of Channing Tatum as Gambit and Steve Rogers proving that he is still worthy of Mjolnir at the end. However, RDJ’s face never appears. Clearly, Marvel Studios are ready for us to hear, but not see, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
That may have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday is out on December 18, 2026.
