Marvel is giving us more homework before Avengers: Doomsday
The Russo Brothers are saying that Avengers: Endgame Encore is "required" viewing, adding to the reading list before Avengers: Doomsday comes out.

Against all our collective advice, Marvel Studios continues to want to give us homework before we go to see their upcoming MCU crossover event film, Avengers: Doomsday. Not only have they outlined all the movies that they think you’ll need to watch to follow what is happening on screen, but now they’re insisting that Avengers: Endgame Encore is “required” viewing before Doomsday comes to pass.
The upcoming rerelease of Avengers: Endgame reportedly contains around four minutes of new footage which will set up Avengers: Doomsday more clearly. Director Joe Russo said in a recent interview that Avengers: Endgame Encore is “going to connect the story of the two movies. There’s a natural progression from Endgame to Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out. But I think it’s important to see Endgame again in theaters for two reasons: One, you’re going to have a lot of fun… and two, I think it’s required viewing for following the story of Doomsday.”
Anthony Russo, the other half of the directing duo for the movies, added, “If you saw Endgame when it was originally released, you couldn’t see this coming.”
Personally, we think we’ve had enough homework with 14 films and Loki before we have to rewatch things we’ve already seen because they’ve added new footage years later, but Marvel Studios clearly thinks that the rest of the MCU can continue to ride the wave of success generated by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
With the final exam of Avengers: Doomsday looming on December 18, 2026, we’ve got just enough time to brush up on our MCU homework.
