Geena Davis shares memories of her Beetlejuice co-star Catherine O’Hara, who she calls a “very special woman”
To this day, Geena Davis still quotes her Beetlejuice co-star Catherine O’Hara

Geena Davis has been in the film industry for over 40 years, and in that time she has worked with lots of talented actors. However, few of them were as special as Catherine O’Hara.
Davis and O’Hara both starred in Tim Burton’s 1988 supernatural comedy Beetlejuice, where Davis played a ghost that was haunting the attic of O’Hara’s new home. This led to a possessed O’Hara singing Harry Belafonte's 'Banana Boat Song' - or, as many people think of it, the "Day-O" song - in a scene that would become one of the most memorable moments of her substantial film career.
O’Hara passed away in January 2026, but her impact will never be forgotten. In fact, Davis has shared that she still quotes one of her favorite O’Hara lines on a regular basis. “She’s a very special woman,” Geena Davis revealed during her A League of Her Own spotlight panel at C2E2 2026. “I saw her on various projects after [Beetlejuice]. Just so funny, everything she said. When I had kids, years later, I would say, ‘Kids. You know I love them.’ Which was a line of hers from the movie. I adored her.”
