Want to see more of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey? Head to IMAX screens this weekend

Six minutes of Nolan's next epic adventure, The Odyssey, will show before two Warner Bros-owned IMAX films starting December 12

I will never forget rushing my family into the car to get to Peter Jackson's King Kong early. Why? Because according to TV, that would be the first place America could see the trailer for X-Men: The Last Stand. These days, rushing to a movie theater to get an exclusive peak at a different movie is somewhat of a rare event - I mean, just wait for the trailer to come online, right? - but not entirely a nonexistent one.

Case in point - Christopher Nolan's epic The Odyssey will screen the first six minutes ahead of select movie showings this coming weekend. And even more exciting, perhaps? Those showings are in IMAX.

Variety has the news of The Odyssey's epic introduction December 9. In the article linked here, we learned that the movie's opening moments will play on the biggest screens available starting December 12, specifically before the IMAX screenings of both Sinners and One Battle After Another. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that, just like The Odyssey, both of those films are Warner Bros. offerings, but you may be surprised to learn that what will be playing is the 70mm versions of the films.

So hey, even if you miss The Odyssey sneak peak at the beginning, you're still getting something great with a ticket to either of those two.

And even if you do miss The Odyssey's opening moments from Sinners and One Battle After Another, the IMAX prologue will continue to play in theaters starting December 19, ahead of IMAX screenings of James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash. Almost makes you forget there's an actual movie on the way, and not just trailers.

That actual Odyssey movie, by the way, comes to theaters (including IMAX, obvs) July 17, 2026.

Christopher Nolan has been thinking about adapting The Odyssey since it was first written! Not really, but it's been a while.

Grant DeArmitt

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy union of the two. In the past, and despite their better judgment, he has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kingsley, and corgi, Legs.
