On this side of the Coyote vs. Acme debacle, things are looking up for the John Cena, Will Forte, and Wile E. Coyote-starring legal comedy. But remember that that wasn't always the case - for a while, the world seemed doomed to never see the film, due to Warner Bros' shelving of the project. And what made that shelving especially devastating, says the film's director, is that he didn't see it coming.

Green recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for a tell-all interview ahead of Coyote vs. Acme's theatrical debut, already promising to be a triumph. And while the tale of 'resurrected film to spite Hollywood big wigs' gives everybody a good feeling now, Green says that it's not the first time the future for the movie looked bright...

Even though the climate around it didn't.

"We saw what happened to Batgirl," Green recalled of 2022's surprise superhero slash, "And we were shocked and our hearts were broken — and we assumed that we were safe because we had told ourselves that it’d happened in a window of the merger completing [...] We figured, 'Oh, once this merger is complete, they’re not going to be able to do things like this again.'"

As though it were on some rocket-powered roller-skates, the path Coyote vs. Acme would take after Green's initial assessment was a bumpy one. From high hopes to dashed dreams to resuscitated rizz, the movie ended up in a winning position, and I have to say, considering the Batgirl of it all makes the whole thing a little bit bittersweet. Not every artist that poured their soul into a project only for that project to wind up a tax write-off got their dues in this situation.

We'll just have to buy extra tickets to this movie in their honor.
