James Gunn has a specific DC role for Pom Klementieff, but they’re not telling us who it is

James Gunn has a very “specific character” in mind.

Popverse is taking a brief pause beginning Thursday, July 11, as we not only prepare for SDCC 2024, but also put the finishing touches behind the scenes on a new website platform to continue delivering news, interviews, guides, and more about comics, tv, movies and conventions, the best way we know how. James Gunn is building a new DC Universe on film, and he’s bringing a few old friends along for the ride. In 2022 the former Guardians of the Galaxy director was named co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Together, the two executives hope to revitalize the DC Universe on film. Gunn is currently directing Superman (formerly titled Superman Legacy), the first film from DC’s new cinematic saga.

In various interviews and social media posts, Gunn has spoken about his desire to bring the Guardians cast over to DC. He just needs to find the right roles for them. According to one Guardians actress, he has a particular role in mind.

During a spotlight panel at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024, Mantis actress Pom Klementieff was asked about working with Gunn in his DC Universe. “Do you think I’m really going to answer this question,” Klementieff jokingly responded. However, Klementieff didn’t leave the audience empty-handed.

“I just want to keep working with James [Gunn], so we’re trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking a lot about one specific character, but I can’t talk about it right now.”

This matches up with what Gunn has said on social media, and teases Klementieff has made in interviews. In 2023, it was mistakenly reported that Klementieff would have a role in the 2025 Superman film, but Gunn shot down those rumors.

Who is the ‘specific’ character Gunn and Klementieff have been discussing? My money is on Ice or Starfire.

It's an exciting time to be a DC fan right now - but then again, when isn't it? get your Geek Knight on with Popverse as we tell you exactly how to watch through the Arrowverse, or if movies are more your jam, how to view the entire cinematic catalogue of the DCEU.
