This summer, David Corenswet flew into cinemas as Superman, ushering in a new era for DC on film. Across the globe, millions of moviegoers flocked to theaters to see the Man of Steel in action, and one of those moviegoers had a special interest in the film.

Years before David Corenswet put on the tights, Brandon Routh played the Man of Steel in the 2006 film Superman Returns. While the film had a healthy performance at the box office, Warner Bros. opted to reboot the franchise in 2013 with Man of Steel, recasting the role with Henry Cavill.

Routh isn’t bitter, and he’s always held a soft spot for Superman. He even got to reprise his role for the 2019 Crisis on Infinite Earths television event. Routh was eager to see what Corenswet and Gunn would do with Superman, and the new movie didn’t disappoint him.

“I think that David did an amazing job bringing Superman back,” Routh says during a panel at Dragon Con. “I’m proud of the work he did. It’s a lot of emotional relationships that he’s carrying and he did excellent work.”

Routh was also asked about the possibility of him and his Arrowverse stars reprising their roles in Gunn’s DCU. While he doesn’t think it’s likely, he thinks it’s a fun idea.

“James [Gunn] has a universe that is ripe for a lot of opportunity for people to come in and it seems there’s a lot of love out there for not just my character, but all of the Arrowverse, and the possibility of something for all of us to revisit this world within his universe might be nice, but I think the Atom would be fun to have in that space in Superman’s world.”
