Get ready to see the live-action dragon of your dreams. No, we’re not talking a teaser for HBO’s next season of House of the Dragon — instead, it’s the first teaser trailer for Universal Pictures and Dreamworks’ live-action reboot of How To Train Your Dragon, ahead of its release next summer. Spoilers: Toothless is, if anything, more cute this time around.
The new movie sees actors including For All Mankind’s Mason Thames, The Last of Us’s Nico Parker, and Nick Frost bring the beloved animated franchise that mixes vikings and dragons to life, with just a little bit of animation involved… but this time, it’s CGI that will make you believe that dragons are not only real, they’re more than slightly adorable, too. Take a look for yourself:
The feature is written, produced and directed by Dean DeBlois, the man who was behind the earlier animated trilogy, working again from Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series. Expect to see Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Game of Thrones's Murray McArthur in the cast, alongside Gerard Butler, who reprises his voice role as Chief Stoick the Vast in flesh and blood this time out.
How To Train Your Dragon will fly into theaters June 13, 2025.
Before you see Toothless in glorious CGI, catch up with him in, er, different CGI with Popverse's How to Train Your Dragon watch order.
