32 years later, former child actor Joseph Mazzello is ready to return to Jurassic Park (or Jurassic World) - and has a great pitch
Joseph Mazzello says it’s a missed opportunity that the Jurassic Park franchise has never brought Tim Murphy back

In 1993 Tim Murphy visited Jurassic Park, his grandfather’s dinosaur theme park. It didn’t go well for him. Tim was terrorized by a T-Rex, thrown into a tree, electrocuted, and had to dodge raptors in a kitchen. Despite all this, Tim Murphy actor Joseph Mazzello is up for another trip to Jurassic Park. The only problem is he’s never been invited back.
“I think about not being in [the other movies] a lot,” Mazzello says during a panel at GalaxyCon Raleigh 2025. “I’ve seen six of the seven. I haven’t seen the newest one. Obviously, I have a clear bias that the first one is the best.”
Mazzello makes a brief cameo appearance in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but he hasn’t been seen since. In contrast, characters like Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ian Malcolm, and Dr. Ellie Sattler have had multiple return appearances. For Mazzello he feels it’s a missed opportunity since Tim is the grandson of Jurassic Park’s founder, and a dinosaur lover.
“I love that it’s still going. I love that it’s still going on. I don’t know, I would love to be back one day. I feel like the dinosaur-loving heir to John Hammond’s fortune is sitting here, and it feels like it writes itself. So maybe one day I’ll get to come back. You never know.”
Funnily enough, this plot thread was explored in the comics. Jurassic Park: Redemption, a comic series from IDW, featured an adult Tim Murphy trying to open his own version of Jurassic Park. Evidently, the trauma he suffered as a child wasn’t enough to give him second thoughts.
If the movies ever bring Mazzello back, his character will probably want to stay away from trees. And fences. And kitchens.
