Marvel Studios did even more Captain America: Brave New World reshoots due to test audience responses than we knew about, according to Giancarlo Esposito

Captain America: Brave New World test screening audiences wanted more Giancarlo Esposito

It’s no secret that Captain America: Brave New World had some reshoots. It’s been widely reported that the film the audiences saw in February 2025 was far different from the original script. From the Leader’s design to certain characters’ fates, Brave New World became a new movie during reshoots. The test audience reactions reshaped the entire film. However, there was one thing the test audience loved - Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder. In fact, they loved him so much that they wanted more of him.

“They tested the movie again, and I got a phone call. And it’s the phone call you don’t want to get if you’re a little bit insecure like I am and most of us are,” Giancarlo Esposito says during a panel at Space Con 2025.

“So, I got the phone call that said, ‘Okay, we want to come back and do reshoots.’ And my mind went, ‘What did I do wrong? What did I do wrong? What did I not do well?’ And he said, ‘No, no, no, no. There’s nothing like that.’ And they started to stutter. [Producer Nate Moore] started to stutter on the phone. He said, ‘Okay, I’m going to put this really simply. We tested the movie again, and they want more Giancarlo. So, it turned into actually a great phone call.”

This led to a new sequence in the middle act where Sidewinder has a brief rematch with Captain America.

“We went back and we shot a whole five-page scene which made it in the movie. And, of course, that makes you want more. But there’s nothing like feeling like you’ve done what you’ve been asked to do.”
