DC Studios' new Superman trailer confirms that Rick Flag Snr. might be the most important man in the new DCU

He's the leader of the Creature Commandos, the head of ARGUS, and hunting both Superman and Peacemaker... the father of the leader of the Suicide Squad is a busy man in the new DCU

With one project down and trailers for the next two now released, it’s safe to call it: Rick Flag Snr. is the connective tissue to the new DCU, at least in its earliest days.

Not only is the character one of the leads of the animated Creature Commandos, released at the end of 2024, but he’s also seen arresting the Man of Steel in the new Superman trailer, and leading a hunt for Peacemaker in the Peacemaker season two teaser. He’s a very, very busy man.

That might be because Flag Snr. is currently the head of ARGUS, the DCU version of SHIELD — it stands for Advanced Research Group Uniting Superhumans, traditionally, although perhaps it’ll have a different meaning in the new DCU — which is, you know, kind of a big deal. We know he’s in charge from the Peacemaker teaser, although that’s a promotion for him; when we last saw ARGUS in Creature Commandos, Amanda Waller was still in charge… but perhaps that’s all going to change in Superman.

For now, let’s keep an eye on Flag as more DCU projects come to light. He’s clearly up to something, and it’s unlikely to be building the DCU version of the Avengers Initiative. (Proof that he’s up to something? Who’s that masked man he’s standing beside as Superman gets arrested…?)

Superman is in theaters July 11. Watch the new trailer here.
