Tom Holland kept giggling on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home - and it ended up saving one iconic scene

The long days of shooting meant Tom Holland was always near exhaustion on set, but at least his giggling helped the editors salvage one of the most important scenes in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Being Spider-Man carries with it a lot of expectations, which is something Tom Holland has had to learn pretty quickly. There is the exercise regime, the arduous shooting schedule, and the constant PR tour to promote the movies. For Tom Holland, this led to him getting a regular case of the giggles on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which, according to the actor, actually saved one of the most important scenes he shared with co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

During an appearance at Ace Universe, Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal talked about why Holland frequently laughed at inappropriate times while filming Spider-Man: Far From Home. It was a habit that Gyllenhaal, who played Mysterio in the movie, attributed to Holland’s intense shooting schedule. Tom Holland admitted it ruined some takes, but he says it actually helped save the scene where Spider-Man and Mysterio meet for the first time.

“An interesting story,” Tom Holland recalled. “You know, in the scene where Mysterio and Spider-Man meet for the first time and we shake hands? My giggling actually saved that scene because it used to be that we would shake hands and then my Spidey Sense would go off, and I’d be like, ‘What was that?’ And it was my Peter Tingle. And then it was meant to be kind of a glimpse into the future that Jake was a bad guy…. So my giggling actually ruined the scene on the day, but saved it in the edit room. So, every cloud has a silver lining.”

So instead of getting an early warning that Mysterio was a villain and ruining the, ahem, mystery of the plot, the editors had to cut the Spidey Sense moment from the scene and leave it more straight. The result is a bit less foreshadowing and a bit more mysterious. All because Tom Holland couldn't keep a straight face.
